- These Brits just won't give up! We have had a friendly competition with our Liverpudlian counterparts for 4 years now. They have set their goal this year at 7,270 Santas. Why is that significant? Because that is just ONE more Santa than Las Vegas recorded on December 1, 2007! Well have we got news for Liverpool this year. "NOT GONNA HAPPEN BRITS!!!" Check out www.santa-dash.com/ for more info on their event.
Here's a special message from Liverpool's Race Director, Alan Rothwell:
"For the last three years I have come to regard Team Las Vegas and all those who take part in the Great Santa Run as our best friends. Together we have raised the profile of this amazing event and in the process raised around £300,000 in the U.K. for very worthwhile cause. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that we don't want to beat Las Vegas and this year is no exception! Liverpool is targeting 10,000 Dashing Santas for 2009 so everyone over in the U.S.A. better get ready for one tough Festive Fun Run battle. Hope to see you all again in October when I will bring the World Challenge to your doorstep!"
10,000? BAH! Lets show them who is king of the Santa Run castle and blow Liverpool out of the water!
- Last year we welcomed Tasmania into our Santa Run family and they didn't disappoint! In their first attempt, they brought in over 1,000 Santas. Well we know the Aussies are coming for us again this year, but we're convinced nobody from the Land Down Under will rob us of our record! For more info on the Tasmania event, visit www.christmasdash.com
- Last year we received a phone call from the race director in Tortona, Italy, letting us know that Pro Tortona would be competing in the Santa Run world competition in 2008. Well, they turned up with over 2,000 Italian Santas and they are coming back for more! Visit The Pro Tortona Page for more info.
- Nobody told us Hungary was taking a stab at the world record, but they came out in FULL FORCE! Over 4,000 Santas gathered in 2008 at an attempt to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records. They fell a little bit short, but apparently they are "Hungry" for more in 2009. Visit the Christmas on Zealand page for more info. Caution: Page not in English! :)
